Slow down, look around, live gently
Environmental activist Robin Greenfield appeared on Good Morning Washington on Thursday to talk about his year-long challenge of eating only food he forages, grows, or catches himself, now ten months in.

Greenfield described foraging as the responsible gathering of wild foods from nature, underlining the importance of correct identification and harvesting in a way that does not deplete natural resources. He said the project was motivated by a wish to better understand food origins, lessen dependence on industrial food systems, and encourage others to reconnect with the natural world.
During the interview, he outlined several benefits of foraging, including a deeper appreciation for nature, greater self-sufficiency, and a more direct relationship with the food one eats. On the subject of safety, he urged beginners never to eat wild plants or mushrooms without proper knowledge and guidance.
Reflecting on the experience so far, Greenfield said the hardest aspect has been the constant commitment needed to source every single meal. Despite that, he said the journey has reinforced his belief that "reconnection with the Earth is the remedy." As the one-year mark approaches, he intends to keep sharing what he has learned and to encourage others to take small steps toward a more sustainable and connected way of living.
