Gilbert's strike seven minutes from time secured the O's their first home league win since 21 March, ending a sequence of seven matches at Brisbane Road without a victory.

Speaking to BBC Radio London, Terry said the coaching staff had been conscious of that run but had chosen not to dwell on it. "As staff, we were aware of that, but you don't want to get bogged down by that because it becomes a weight on the players' shoulders a little bit," he said.

Terry added that no particular emphasis had been placed on the record ahead of the match. He said the team's focus had been on executing the right things during the game, which he felt always gave them a chance of winning.

He acknowledged that the performance itself was not a polished one. "It wasn't our best performance, it wasn't pretty. We've done the ugly side of the game and we've got the goal we needed and three points," he said.

Terry was keen to share the result with everyone connected to the club. "This is for everyone - the players, the staff, the fans, everyone associated with the club - because we were all together on that one," he said.
